How the Tarlo website uses cookies and similar technologies
Last updated: 3 November 2026
The short version
- We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to run the website and remember your cookie choice.
- Only if you accept statistics cookies do we use Microsoft Clarity and Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how the site is used. They never run on our health check pages, even if you have accepted.
- We do not use marketing or advertising cookies.
- You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are small files that a website stores on your device. Similar technologies include local storage and scripts that store or read information on your device. The law that covers them (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025) requires your consent unless the technology is strictly necessary or falls within another exception.
Necessary
Your cookie choice
We use Cookiebot, made by Usercentrics, to show the cookie banner and remember your choice. Its CookieConsent cookie stores your choice. To show the banner, Cookiebot processes the page address, your browser language, user agent and IP address, and it records your choice with a consent ID. Usercentrics keeps that record for 12 months in the EU, so we can show what you agreed to.
Cloudflare Turnstile (health check results form only)
If you start filling in the form to send us your health check results, we load Cloudflare Turnstile to check you are a person, not a bot. It does not load on any other page or before you use the form. Cloudflare says Turnstile processes signals such as your IP address, browser details (user agent and TLS fingerprint) and the site key, and that these are strictly necessary to detect and block bots. Cloudflare acts for us when it does this, and uses the same signals itself to improve its bot detection. See the Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
Microsoft Bookings
Our booking calendar is provided by Microsoft Bookings. It loads only when you choose to show it on the booking page, and Microsoft may then set cookies it needs to work. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Our fonts are hosted on our own website, so no font service sees your visit.
Statistics (only if you accept)
Microsoft Clarity
Clarity shows us how visitors use the site, so we can improve it: heatmaps of where people click and scroll, and visit recordings. A recording is rebuilt from the page and your clicks, scrolls and mouse movements; it is not a video of your screen. We use Clarity's strict masking, so what you type is not sent to Clarity. Clarity never runs on our health check pages.
Microsoft runs Clarity as a data controller in its own right. Clarity data is stored in Microsoft Azure. Playback data is retained for 30 days. Heatmap and click data, and sessions we label or favourite, are retained for 9 months. The Microsoft Privacy Statement explains how Microsoft uses the data. Clarity does not respond to Do Not Track browser settings, but it does support Global Privacy Control. You can also opt out of Clarity on every site that uses it by choosing Microsoft at optout.aboutads.info.
Cookies Clarity can set after you accept:
| Name | Set by | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| _clck | tarlo.co.uk (Clarity) | Keeps the Clarity user ID and preferences for this site |
| _clsk | tarlo.co.uk (Clarity) | Joins your page views into one visit recording |
| CLID | Microsoft | Identifies the first time Clarity saw this browser on any site that uses Clarity |
| MUID | Microsoft | Identifies unique browsers visiting Microsoft sites; Microsoft uses it for advertising, site analytics and other operational purposes |
| ANONCHK | Microsoft | Shows whether MUID is passed to an advertising cookie; Clarity doesn't use that cookie, so it is always 0 |
| MR | Microsoft | Whether to refresh MUID |
| SM | Microsoft | Keeps MUID in step across Microsoft websites |
How long each cookie lasts is shown in the cookie declaration at the end of this page. The Microsoft cookies are third-party cookies, so browsers that block third-party cookies won't store them. Clarity's own features use the first two.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views and measures how quickly pages load. Cloudflare says it does not collect or use visitors' personal data and does not track people across websites. We load it only after you accept statistics cookies, and never on our health check pages.
Changing your mind
- Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page to change or withdraw your consent.
- If you withdraw consent after accepting, we tell Clarity and reload the page to stop the statistics tools.
- You can also clear cookies and site data (including local storage) in your browser settings, or turn on Global Privacy Control.
